Tsunami Wave Riders Win "Single of the Year" at the Hawaii Music Awards

"Island Dreamin," an original song by the Tsunami Wave Riders, won "Single of the Year" at the 2008 Hawaii Music Awards, the "people's choice" awards.  Over 90,000 ballots from 100 countries chose their favorite island artists in 31 categories.  The song was written by Ronnie Tsunami and Joanna 'Tropical Lady', and it first became popular with listeners of Aloha Joe Radio in early 2007.  It was a crowd favorite among audiences at all of the shows performed by the Tsunami Wave Riders, becoming their signature song.

TWR Meets a True "Wave Rider" - Alexandra Schaney

On Oct 13th, 2007, the Tsunami Wave Riders were honored to perform for a charity called Alexandra's Butterflies of Hope, which was inspired by Alexandra Schaney, a 7-year old girl who suffers from Neuroblastoma, a very rare cancer.  Tijuana Flats, a great new Mexican restaurant in the University area, sponsored the fundraiser and donated 10% of the total money they made that day, and they also brought in other sponsors to donate prizes to raffle off (selling over 900 tickets).  Even after enduring chemotherapy just the day before in New York, Alexandra and her parents made it to the event, and Alexandra was dancing the limbo and jamming on the steel drums - what a true "wave rider"!  A special mahalo to all the people who came out to the event, especially the Parrothead Club of Charlotte, which had people driving from up to 6 hours away for the event!  If you would like to donate money to help Alexandra, please visit Alexandra's Butterflies of Hope

TurtleNecks Request the Tsunami Wave Riders on Aloha Joe Radio

Fans of the Tsunami Wave Riders, known as "TurtleNecks," have made the Tsunami Wave Riders and their original song, Island Dreamin', a popular request on Aloha Joe Radio, the largest Hawaiian entertainment station in the world that has been broadcasting on the Internet since 1994.  In addition to Island Dreamin', other songs have been played as well, including "Under the Coconut Trees, " Tropical Lady" and "Hawaiian War Chant."  The Tsunami Wave Riders even got a chance to do a live on-air interview with Aloha Joe himself while traveling back from a show in Myrtle Beach, SC.
